This week’s poem- ‘Peace Treaty’ (after the fall)
Here’s this week’s poem on Poet’s Corner! Let me know what you think about this poem in the comments!
What do you think it’s about? How does it make you feel when you read it?
Sometimes poetry is written and read and seems to stop there with no true thought to it. Or in many cases (and in mine), it could be hard to interpret what the poet is actually trying to convey. So, if you want to dive deeper into the poem, or get more understanding about it, then let’s talk about it!
I am also currently accepting poetry submissions! Just email izzylala83@gmail.com! Would love to read some of your poetry - and create dialogue around it!
But before we proceed, I’d like to highlight a comment left on my last post by AndYes (refer to the poem ‘Caught Between’)
“I always always always love and appreciate your attention to hope and growth 💖”
I wrote the poem, ‘Caught Between,’ as I reflected on states of mind in my youth. I still remember often lying in bed with negative thoughts and emotions swarming inside me. This poem is referring to how sometimes we are caught between dark and light thoughts and how easily it is to be overcome by the dark ones. But then, as we allow growth - we find that hope almost always appears with it.
Now here is this week’s poem:
PEACE TREATY (after the fall)
This is my peace treaty, a tilted head
to heaven, promise to never look down
At girl in the mud, apology
in her mouth, fatigued
staring at the mire, ash showing
nothing else but parts after the fire
And anyway, I was losing long enough
So, this is my peace treaty, chin to heaven
hands up
I have learned – that to play with fire,
you always get burned, have learned
the hard way about making her hurt
So, this is my peace treaty, with myself,
I swear to not hurt the one
with whom I am near.
