This week’s poem/song

Here’s Poet’s Corner poem for this week! What do you think about this poem (which is really like a song) ? Any thoughts on the content or meaning?

Let me know in the comments, and feel free to send a poem of your own to izzylala83@gmail.com!

Wind in My Hair

Wind in my hair, I will drive

with windows rolled down,

Wave my goodbyes in the rearview

Baseball cap, blue jeans, open mouths

All a-gaze at my departure

There’s something so freeing about finalities

I’ll ride with her - a passenger -

The memory of her in the backseat

Closed-mouth, teary eyed, crippled with fear

The ghost of her reminds me of who I once was there

Dancing with darkness, and a couple shots of vodka,

Bitter taste of them running down my throat - then nausea

I will wave goodbye to every burning regret

my hand in the air like queen

I will hold her high as a crown and love it

Diamonds Picked up from the gritty street

I will put them back in their place,

Like jewels on royalty

No matter how many times stepped on,

She never succumbed to frailty

I will wave goodbye to ties, unhook cords -

They only keep the wheels from moving forward

Unwrap arms that never belonged around me

and to freedom, I’ll drive towards

I will wave my goodbyes to memories

dandelions flying in the wind

I will wave my goodbyes

And never look back again
